San Jose: Winchester Mystery House™
"Winchester Mystery House™ is an extravagant maze of Victorian craftsmanship - marvelous, baffling, and eerily eccentric, to say the least."
A beautiful but bizarre piece of architecture is what can be said about the Winchester Mystery House™. Married to the treasurer of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, William Winchester, Sarah Winchester built the house with the belief that her family was haunted by those killed by the Winchester Repeating Rifle.
Moving West to Santa Clara Valley and upon her husband's death, she received several million dollars in cash and stock shares of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. This provided her with almost unlimited income a day to say the least.
The mansion itself is not open for photographs and videography so all I was able to take photos of are the museum such as the Winchester Firearms Museum.
The tours inside the house are scheduled so we had to wait in the courtyard for our turn.
Before getting inside the house, you'll be asked to have your photo taken which you can then purchase after the tour at the gift shop. Ours was displayed in the counter so we knew we had to get them.
